Lameness: Previously Foundered, Must have minimal to no grass access, especially in the spring time
Vices: None
Personality: Friendly. Easy to Catch, Lead, Bathe, Spray, Groom, Trim, Tie, Trailer, etc. Good with other horses, ponies and donkeys. Grouchy/girthy when tacking up, likely from being a school pony for many years, beginner kids bouncing around on her back and poor fitting saddles.
History/Training: Purchased from an Auction, The note said she was used as a lesson pony, trail pony and show pony, they said she loves to hack, and loves to jump, etc. UPDATE: We have discovered she has foundered in the past which they neglected to mention, and sadly this is likely the reason she was dumped at the auction . Very sweet around kids for grooming, handling, etc. Goes well under saddle, well trained, beautiful head set, will jump a course, etc. UPDATE: we took merrylegs for a hack (trail ride) yesterday with a 10 yr old girl riding her, and she was perfect!!! Extremely well broke, been there and done that kind of pony!!! but does have some energy over fences and at the center so not for a beginner rider
Future/Suitability: If her founder is kept under control she should be able to continue as a show or pleasure pony. No riding schools please. Lightweight riders only, sorry, 120lbs or less.
QUESTION: OTHER THAN MERRYLEGS' FOUNDER SHE IS A SOUND HEALTHY MARE WITH LOTS OF PREVIOUS PLEASURE, TRAIL AND SHOW EXPERIENCE ... SO I HAVE TO ASK ... WHY DOES NO ONE WANT TO ADOPT HER?? IN THE ALMOST 1.5 YEARS THAT SHE HAS BEEN HERE WE HAVE HAD ONE (YES ONE!) PERSON COME TO SEE HER AND THAT'S IT. WHY DOES NO ONE WANT TO ADOPTION THIS BEAUTIFUL MARE? IF YOU LOOK AFTER HER FEET PROPERLY SHE WOULD MAKE A TERRIFIC PLEASURE/TRAIL PONY AND PERHAPS EVEN A BIT OF SHOWING AS WELL!!
Adoption Fee/Purchase Price:
We accept email money transfers or cash. We no longer accept cheques due to all of the NSF cheques we have received in the past. A few of you have asked if we would consider a trade/barter. I think we would consider it however since everyone thinks what they have is worth twice as much as it really is LOL if I were to consider a trade/barter you would have to make the offer worth while .... we would be willing to accept hay, feed, turnout blankets, saddles, etc basically anything that we can use here or that we can sell in the tack shop and make money to buy the things we need, or put the cash towards hay, feed, vet, farrier, etc!! We have at least $2500+ invested into Merrylegs with her purchase price, trailering, vet, hay, deworming, farrier, etc. We will never recoup what we have into Merrylegs so we understand we will be taking a huge loss, and we are used to that, but we do need to get something for her, as we cannot help more horses, ponies and donkeys until we find good homes for the ones that are here. The adoption fees are very important in keeping HCW running. Merrylegs needs and deserves a good permanent loving home. She has been patiently waiting since June '09.
