Gus

Barn Name: Gus

Breed: Appaloosa
Reg'd Name: Sweet Bars Knight
Reg#: # 505407 (Appaloosa Horse Club)
DOB: 5/2/91
Sire: Solid Sugar Bars - #T318486
Dam: Mel's Precious - AQHA #2065372

Height: 15.1hh
Age: 23 y/o
Gender: Gelding
Colour: Grey, (one brown eye, one blue eye)

Health: Good. Excellent for his age. He still loves to run and play in the fresh snow or kick his heels back on a nice summer day and run around the paddock. In 2012 he had allergies and weezing. This only lasted for the duration of the summer. He was giving medicine for the summer to help with the allergies and it was suggested by our vet at the time that it was likely something that had grown more than normal that year and caused a flare up. He has not had any issues since.
Lameness: None Known

Vices: None
Personality: Friendly. Easy to Catch, Lead, Groom, Spray, Bathe, Tie, Trailer, etc. Currently turned out in a gelding herd (horses, ponies, donkeys). He tends to get attached to the mares. He can be pushy if you want him to go somewhere he doesn't want to go. Extremely loving. Loves to put his head into your chest and cuddle. He will stand all day to be groomed. He loves children and is good with dogs. He is easy to lead, and stands great for the farrier.

History/Training: Endurance Horse, Dressage, Jumping, Trails, Pleasure, Pet - Prefers Western and a Bitless Bridle. Gus was an event horse previously, but has since retired and become a pasture buddy to his best friend Booker. He has not been ridden in over a year.

Future/Suitability: Light Pleasure Riding, Trails, Companion, Pet - Suitable for any level rider at the walk, but at the Trot/canter he has some energy (& does sometimes bunny hop!) so may be suited for someone who has some riding experience. Gus would be great for lead line walks, pasture company, pet. Gus prefers to be a one person horse, but will welcome grooming, treats and cuddles from anyone willing to give. Suitable for Lighter Rider Approx 150lbs or Less.

Additional Info: Gus was Adopted Out in 2010 to no fault of his own he is returning to HCW this month in need of a new permanent home!

Adoption Fee/Purchase Price: Adopted!

We accept email money transfers or cash. We no longer accept cheques due to all of the NSF cheques we have received in the past. We will never recoup what we have into Gus so we understand we will be taking a loss, and we are used to that, but we do need to get something for him, as we cannot help more horses, ponies and donkeys until we find good homes for the ones that are here. The adoption fees are very important in keeping HCW running. Gus needs and deserves a good permanent loving home.

Current Status: Located at HCW in Cameron, ON - Available for Adoption/Sale or Fostering/Free Lease (Until Adopted). If you have any questions about Gus and/or would like to make arrangements to see him, please email Claire at HCWEquineRescue@sympatico.ca

SPONSORS NEEDED!!!: If you would like to help Gus, but are not able to Adopt or Foster him at this time perhaps you would be interested in Sponsoring him by helping to cover the costs of (or a portion of) his daily care - such as his Hay, Purina Senior Pellets, Vet, Vaccinations, Farrier, Ivermectin De-Wormer, Tapeworm Dewormer, Blue Salt Block, Treats, Halter, Fall Turnout Sheet, Winter Turnout Blanket, Brushes, Lead Rope, etc. If you would like to help in any way, please email Claire at HCW for details.
