Health: Good but needs more than just hay to keep his weight up (ie. hay, pasture, pellets, supplements, etc)
Lameness: Crappy feet (needs front shoes or hoof boots for riding). We have him barefoot currently so we have only been riding him on soft ground. He is sound enough for light pleasure riding if he has shoes (or hoof boots) and is kept on his supplements (glucosamine/msm, etc)
Vices: Sometimes he is an angel to be tied and othertimes he becomes quite pushy and will try to escape. So we groom him and tack him up in a box stall instead if he is not happy being tied that day.
Personality: Friendly, Easy to catch, lead, bath, groom, tie, trim, trailer, etc. Currently turned out with a group of geldings (horses, ponies, donkeys). Natural Horsemanship would work wonders for him with his tieing/pulling issue.
History/Training: Race Horse, Lesson Horse, Show Horse, Trail Horse
Future/Suitability: Pleasure/Trails, Light Showing . Excellent well trained horse for someone who doesn't mind giving him a little extra TLC and taking care of his needs !
Additional Info from previous owner: Dakota likes trail rides, but hates the bugs. Can be ridden English or Western (has done schooling shows - small hunter courses) Can do an excellent Western jog.
Adoption Fee/Purchase Price: $1000 or best offer to best home
His price includes his winter turnout blanket. We accept email money transfers or cash. We no longer accept cheques due to all of the NSF cheques we have received in the past. We have at least $1000+ invested into Dakota with his hay, feed, supplements, deworming, farrier, etc. We will never recoup what we have into Dakota so we understand we will be taking a huge loss, and we are used to that, but we do need to get something for him, as we cannot help more horses, ponies and donkeys until we find good homes for the ones that are here. The adoption fees are very important in keeping HCW running. Dakota needs and deserves a good permanent loving home. He has been patiently waiting since July '10.
