Beau

Barn Name: Beau

Breed: Percheron
Height: Approx 15.2h
Age: 5 y/o (Born May '06)
Gender: Gelding
Colour: Black with White Socks + Star

Health: Excellent
Vaccinations - UTD - Aug 6/11 (Rabies, WNV, Tetanus)

Lameness: Ringbone Left Front Pastern. The ringbone is probably a result of a contusion, possibly a kick. He has his days when he is perfectly sound and then other days when he slightly favours that left front, but he has never been 3 legged lame.

Vet Update: Aug 6/2011: The vet believes that Beau indeed has ringbone ( exostosis ) in his left front pastern, which results in some lameness. Treatment can be with NSAIDS, non steroidal anti- inflamatory drugs or corticosteroid injections. Often the site will become calcified in time, and the pain will subside, therefore allowing the horse some more flexibility . He may be able to be used sparingly, and with some limitations for now, especially with a light weight rider, and he will be a wonderful companion horse or a terrific pet to a loving home. This horse has so much character and personality that I know that this alone makes him valuable.

Vices: None
Personality: Friendly. Easy to catch, lead, groom, tie, trailer, etc. Good with other horses, ponies and donkeys. Super playful! Loves Toys!! Loves water and baths and will drink right out of the hose!! Super temperament: very curious, sweet nature, constantly makes us laugh - i.e. pulls out the hose out of the water tub and yanks it down into the field, loves water and baths, will play with sticks in field, likes horse toys, will nibble on your shoes, etc. If we are in the field he will come to investigate, very inquisitive. Sometimes will shy at something new, but when given the chance to investigate, and when treated calmly and quietly by the handler, he accepts it and is absolutely fine. Great with farrier. Always has been good to trim, never had shoes on. A bit chicken with the vet - we usually vaccinate him in his stall, and he's fine. Loves attention and people. Will follow us around in field like a dog. Sweet horse.

History/Training: Companion, Pet. Green Broke to Ride. Beau has been backed, has had English and western saddles on him. Didn't flinch when first backed. Has been led around many times , with someone on him. Never had a bit in his mouth, but I don't anticipate a problem there. Has been handled since we got him as a yearling. Lifts up feet well, though sometimes a little heavy - we just grab his feathers. Handled all over body. Used to being sprayed with insect repellent. Likes to be groomed but will play with brushes. Will grab anything close to his stall, so be aware of wiring, and don't have anything hanging near him like halters, etc. They will be gone. Loves to eat, eats anything, loves hay.

Future/Suitability: Companion, Pet, Light Pleasure Riding, Trails (Not Suitable for Strenuous Ring Work or Jumping)

Additional Info: All of the above info was provided to us by Beau's previous owner. We will update this page as we get to know Beau personally.

Adoption Fee/Purchase Price:

We accept cash or email money transfers. We no longer accept cheques due to all of the NSF cheques we have received in the past. We already know that we will never recoup what we will put into Beau so we understand we will be taking a loss, and we are used to that, but we do need to get something for him, as we cannot help more horses, ponies and donkeys until we find good homes for the ones that are here. The adoption fees are very important in keeping HCW running. Beau needs and deserves a good permanent loving home. He has been patiently waiting since Aug 2011.
